Just a few minutes before we were supposed to board, the gate agent spoke over the intercom, explaining that there were thunderstorms in Atlanta and nothing was moving. We were delayed until 7:30, then 8:00, and then 9:00.
Just before 9:00 we were able to board the plane and take off. The usual 35 minute flight to Atlanta was 90 minutes in order to avoid thunderstorms in our path.
These delays would not have been a problem if Atlanta had been our final destination. Unfortunately that was not the case. Daddy was heading to Tel Aviv (leaving at 10:45) and the rest of us to Houston (leaving at 10:15). Luckily all flights going out of Atlanta had been delayed. When we landed and arrived at our gate at 11:00 we had to quickly say our goodbyes and run to the next terminal to catch our 11:10 connection.
When we arrived at our gate, huffing and puffing, we found the boarding door had just been closed seconds before we got there. Disappointed and angry we found a place to sit down and figure out what to do.
After looking at the Delta ticket line that had about 200 people in it (and no I'm not exaggerating) we decided to find a hotel for the night and to call Delta. Mama stayed up talking to the ticket agents to get everything sorted out.
All flights going to Houston today were full. We thought great, we're stuck in this hotel for a whole day with 1. no luggage 2. no transportation 3. nothing to do 4. we're going to be two days late to houston. This was not ideal. At all.
We talked to Daddy this morning and he suggested we call our friends, the O'Mearas, since they live close by in Montgomery. It didn't take us long to decide we were going to rent a car and spend the afternoon in Alabama. It turned out perfect. We got to spend several hours visiting with the O'Mearas before we had to drive back to Atlanta.
God is so good. It is true, he works all things together for the good of those who love him. Not only do we get to spend the four days with the Stewarts in Houston, but we also got to spend some unexpected time with the O'Mearas!
